Code of Conduct

ALCOHOL:

Alcohol is PROHIBITED in the venue.  If anyone is caught with alcohol in the venue, you will be asked to leave the premises.  Be respectful, as this is a family friendly event. Attendees who refuse to comply or commit repeat offenses are subject to ejection from GrandCon without a refund.

Badge Swapping:

Badges must be worn and visible at all times while in any of the convention designated areas.  Also, please do not steal from us by allowing others to use your convention badge.  If we discover sharing of badges they will be confiscated, and you will be asked to leave the convention, no refunds, and not return.

Costumes:

Costumes must be tasteful and cover appropriate areas of the body.  What is illegal outside the convention is illegal at the convention.  We are a family friendly event.  Props should be carried in a way that does not inconvenience or injure other attendees.  Metal weapons, live firearms, or props loaded with high velocity projectiles are prohibited.  Realistic weapon props may be approved or peace-bonded at discretion of the staff.  If you are uncertain, please inquire at the registration desk.

General Misbehavior:

GrandCon actively operates under the belief that everyone deserves a full convention experience free of harassment. This applies to all attendees, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity/expression, religious affiliation, disability, physical appearance, body size, or other identifying factor.

Harassment, whether from attendees, GrandCon staff, exhibitors, guests, DeVos Place staff, or any others associated with the convention, will not be tolerated in any form.

What Constitutes Harassment at GrandCon?

Harassment, as per definition at GrandCon, includes:

  • Deliberate intimidation (gaming “trash talk” that threatens or disparages another is not acceptable)

  • Stalking

  • Body or gender policing

  • Verbal comments, writing or imagery that demonstrates harmful or oppressive intent toward a specific group or type of identity

  • Unwelcome photography or recording (always ask permission first)

  • Inappropriate and unwelcome physical contact

  • Inappropriate and unwelcome sexual attention

  • Persistent disruption of talks or events

What About COVID19 and Masks?

We are currently requesting that anyone within the gaming halls and vendor areas be masked up.

Does this mean that masks are mandatory? No.

That said, we must also be mindful of and follow any CDC guidelines. If the CDC mandates masks to be worn while attending indoor events, our policy will conform to match. Ultimately, we ask that all be respectful of each other as we join in fun.

Responding to Harassment

GrandCon participants who experience or witness harassment are asked to report it to a non-involved staff member or yellow-shirted volunteer immediately.

Participants who are asked to stop any behavior flagged as harassment are expected to immediately comply. Exhibitors, volunteers, guests, and GrandCon staff are also subject to this policy.

Attendees who refuse to comply or commit repeat offenses are subject to ejection from GrandCon without a refund.

Respect Toward All

Gaming is an inclusive hobby, and gaming at GrandCon is open to all attendees who uphold a culture of respect toward all their neighbors. We ask everyone to be mutually accountable to maintain an enjoyable convention for everyone.

If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact us at info@grandcon.com.
